Welcome to Peterborough Playgoers Society
This amateur dramatic society, generally known as just ‘Playgoers’, has
been based in the city since 1935.
We currently perform two productions per year in Peterborough’s Key
Theatre Studio on the Embankment and with a host of other activities
and monthly social events, there is much to keep the membership
occupied.
We are very proud of our achievements over the decades and 2025
marks our 90 th anniversary. Planning is underway for some celebratory
events, details of which will be released when finalised.

Cat’s Cradle
Cat’s Cradle is set in the present day in an old coaching inn in a very typically English village, and deals with the events surrounding an almost forgotten kidnapping and possible murder
which happened twelve years ago and was never solved.
As the play opens, the Inspector who was originally in charge of the case which has blighted his career, returns to re-open the investigation to try to resolve it before he retires. However, he discovers that he is not welcome and is met with a conspiracy of silence from the villagers who all seem to have secrets of their own to keep hidden so he enlists the help of a local journalist.
The whole affair is finally resolved in a series of startling revelations which gradually unravel and will keep you guessing to the very end of the play.
The play was written by Leslie Sands, who was an actor, playwright, and tv scriptwriter whose face was well known to television audiences in the 1960’s and 1970’s and who was responsible for writing many episodes of series such as Z Cars and the original series of Van Der Valk.
